Step-by-Step Tutorial

This Step-by-Step Tutorial will show you how to customise your own CyberTracker Application and how to view your data in a Table and Map and how to Export your data to other databases for more advanced analysis.

Get Started

1. Install Microsoft Active Sync Software (CD supplied with PDA or Smartphone)

2. Download CyberTracker Software and New Basic Screen Templates from www.cybertracker.org/software/free-download

3. Unzip the CT3xxx.zip file and double-click on the CT3xxx.msi file to install the CyberTracker software on your personal computer (pc).

4. Unzip the New_Basic_Screen_Templates.zip file and double-click on the New_Basic_Screen_Templates.CTX file to open the New Basic Screen Templates application.

5. Select File, Save Database As… and type in the File name and select Save to save the database in a folder.

To Create Screens

Screen 1- Start Screen

1. Open Applications, select new screen/custom template

2. To create start screen, select blank with title

6. Select layout/panel, draw box in the screen

7. Under properties, select dock/bottom

13. Go to file/save database

Screen 2– Observers

1.select new screen/custom templates/check list textimage 9

3.Under properties, select elements/.../clear

4.Under name, type Observer Name/enterimage 10

5.When finished, select ok

6. Go to file/save database

Screen 3- GPS Timer

1. select new screen/custom templates/GPS timer setupimage 11

Screen 4- Survey Type

1. Select new screen/custom templates/radio list text

2.Rename screen as Patrol Type

3. Under properties, select elements/.../clear

4. Under name, type Foot Patrol/enter, Vehicle Patrol/enter, Spoor Survey/enter

5. when finished, select ok

6. Go to file/save database

Screen 5- Transect Name

1. Select new screen/custom templates/radio list text

2. Rename screen Transect Name

3. Under properties, select elements/.../clear

4. Under name, type the names of the transects/enter

5. When finished, select ok

6. Go to file/save database

Screen 6- Start/Continue Survey

1. Select new screen/custom templates/Radio list text

2. Rename screen Start/Continue Survey

3. Under properties, select elements/.../clear

4. Under name, type in Starting Point for Collection/enter, Continue/enter

5. when finished, select ok

6. go to file/save database

Screen 7- Type of Animal

1. Select new screen/custom templates/radio list text

2. Rename screen as Type of Animal

3. Under properties, select element/.../clear

4. Under name, type Hoofed Mammals/enter, Padded Mammals/enter, Birds/enter, Endof Collection/enter

5. When finished, select ok

6. Go to file/save database

Screen 8- Hoofed Mammals

1. Select new screen/custom templates/radio list text

2. Rename screen as Hoofed Mammals

3. Under properties, select elements/.../clear

4. Type in the name of hoofed mammals in your study area, ex. Moose/enter

5. When finished, select ok

6. Go to file/save database

Screen 9- Padded Mammals

1. Select new screen/custom templates/radio list text

2. Rename screen as Padded Mammals

3. Under properties, select elements/.../clear

4. Type in the name of the padded mammals in your study area, ex. Cougar/enter

5. When finished, select ok

6. Go to file/save database

Screen 10– Birds

1. Select new screen/custom templates/ radio list text

2. Rename screen as Birds

3. Under properties, select elements/.../clear

4. Type in the name of the birds in your study area, ex. Song Sparrow/enter

5. When finished, select ok

Screen 11- Type of Observation

1. Select new screen/custom templates/radio list text

2. Rename screen as Type of Observation

3. Under properties, select elements/.../clear

4. Under name, type in Sighting/enter, Track/enter, Sign/enter, Sound/enter

5. When finished, select ok

Screen 12- Spoor Age

1. select new screen/custom templates/radio list text

2. rename screen as Spoor Age

3. Under properties, select elements/.../clear

4. under name, type in Very Fresh/enter, Fresh/enter, Old/enter

5. When finished, select ok

Screen 13– Total Count

1. select new screen/custom templates/ number keypad

2. Rename screen as Total Count

3. Under properties, select result elements/...

4. Under name, type Total Count/enter

5. When finished, select ok

6. Go to file/save database

Screen 14- Population Count

1. select new screen/custom templates/number list keypad

2. Rename screen as Population Count

3. Under properties, select elements/...

4. Under name, type in Adult Male/enter, Adult Female/enter, Adult Unknown/enter,Subadult Male/enter, Subadult Female/enter, Subadult Unknown/enter, Juvenile/enter

5. when finished, select ok

6. go to file/save database

Screen 15– Habitat

1. select new screen/custom templates/radio list text

2. rename screen as Habitat

3. Under properties, select elements/.../clear

4. under name, type in habitat types, ex. Mixed Forest/enter

5. When finished, select ok

6. Go to file/save database

Screen 16- Weather

1. select new screen/custom templates/ check list text

2. Rename screen as Weather

3. under properties, select elements/.../clear

4. Under name, type in Sunny/enter, Cloudy/enter, Overcast/enter, Drizzle/enter, Rain/enter, Downpour/enter

5. go to file/save database

Adding a field map to an application

1. Under view select reportsimage 23

2. Select new view/map

3. If you are connectedto the internet, the default map will be Virtual Earth

4. zoom in on the area you wish to create as a field map. Select the field map button and save the map as an ECW fileimage 24

6. Select application properties/field map/... and choose the map you would like to use

7. The field map can now be viewed in yourapplication GPS triangleby selecting the GPS triangle inthe navigator bar on the screen

Exporting data to excel

1. Select the query you want to export

2. Select export view

3. select the folder you would like it to save in

4. Under save as type select Microsoft excel spread sheet

Exporting table to google earth

5. Select the query you want to export

6. Select export view

7. select the folder you would like it to save in

8. Under save as type select Google Earth (Keyhole Markup Language)

9. If you are connected to the internet, you will be asked to launch google earth. Select yes
